Ecliptic. Bohemian. Vintage. Unique. Those are just a few words owner Angela uses to describe her business, La Petite Boutique & Fine Décor Consignment Store located in beautiful downtown Effingham, Illinois. When I walked in to chat with Angela I couldn't help but to feel that vibe of uniqueness and the passion that she puts into her store. La Petite Boutique carries upscale, high end items at very affordable price points and the inventory is always changing. The items in the boutique aren't items you can find just anywhere in Effingham. They come from everywhere, including vintage stores in New York City and The French Market in New Orleans.
Angela grew up the middle of 5 kids. She's always loved fashion and has always had a knack for it. Growing up, her mother used to sew dresses for Angela and her sister. She always had the option to order a dress through the catalog or to have her mother sew one and she always chose her mother's creations because people always commented on how much they loved the dresses her mother made.
The journey to opening La Petite Boutique started a little over 4 years ago. As a lover of fashion and an avid shopper, always adding to her own collections, Angela had quite the collection of purses. One day, her daughter's friend was "shopping" through her purses and offered to sell them for her if Angela would sell them to her for $5. This sparked and idea in Angela and she decided to approach salons and other boutiqes and have a small rack of her purses there to sell in their stores. When these avenues proved not as successful as Angela would have hoped, she set out to open her own store and 4 years ago, La Petite Bouttique & Fine Décor Consignment Store was born.
Now don't let the "Petite" in the name fool you. A lot of item in the store are on the smaller side but that's only because the store was born out of Angela's own closet. However, La Petite Boutique caries clothing in all sizes because Angela knows that people come in all shapes and sizes and wants everyone to find what they're looking for. So 'petite' is in no way a description of the clothing sizes offered.
When you walk into the store you get a quaint vintage feel. But vintage items have only recently and slowly began to be incorporated. It helps that there is a lovely tea area right when you walk in where you can sit and chat and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. It takes you back to another era when it was common to sit down and enjoy tea instead of rushing around like we do today. You can even buy the teacups you drink from and the furniture you sit on. It's a lovely way to spend an afternoon while you're out shopping. A big attraction for me in the vintage area were the dresses in the store. If you haven't seen them, it's a must! You will also find various vintage furniture pieces that have been refurbished and given new life.
Angela offers a few different services in her boutique currently and has very big dreams and goals for La Petite Boutique coming up in the future. Currently, she offers tuxedo rental from a book of tuxedos and a rental services for formal dresses that are actually in her shop! (Hint hint to my clients....great place to rent a wardrobe for your photo session!) She does want to eventually incorporate formal dress rental via the ordering book as well, much the same way the tuxedos are rented. Some other current services are her tea area we touched on earlier, and offering very unique products from craft cosigners and online sources to keep things interesting and moving. She can also sell and buy things on ebay for you! Some things she's thinking for the future include expanding on her tea area with essential oils and tea you can buy, expanding her rental services, offer clothing styling services, and adding a shopping cart to her website so people can buy online.
Angela focuses heavily on customer service and loves the people the business brings her. She wants everyone who walks through her doors to be happy and come back to her store. Anything she can do to help you find what you're looking for, she will. If you cannot find it, she will help you find it. If she doesn't have it, she will help you find it online.
